I really love Daleks. They crack me up. How can you not love a glidey, oddly shaped thing with a plunger and an eggbeater for a gun? To top it all off, they have light shows going on on their heads when they talk (which is in a hilarious monotone.) They're awesome.

My love for those kerazy Daleks has brought these things into creation so far:
First off, I painted a pair of knock off Vans slip ons

I have also started knitting a small army of knitted Daleks using a pattern from EXTERMIKNIT!

So far I have Dalek Fay (named after hurricane Fay, which I spent most of my time knitting by candlelight in)

I'm also almost finished with Rhi's Dalek, which I am knitting her for Christmas. I'm going to paint a box like the TARDIS and wrap it up and stick it in another box to be mailed. It will be awesome.

I'm still brainstorming on more crafty Dalek projects. I think I'll be a Dalek next year for Halloween.

In other news, I ordered up some tasty Noro Kureyon in colorway #170 and some Knitpicks Andean Silk in Pitch to make my best friend Jessica the Fake Isle hat for Erikmas (Our Phantom of the Opera based religion. We're dorks.) I'm still waiting on the Andean silk, but I can't wait to start this hat. It's too warm here in Florida for me to have an excuse for knitting myself a hat, so at least I get to have a bit of fun making someone else one. I've always wanted to knit with Noro, too.

New room

I moved into my new room a few days ago! I love it. It's not 100% done yet. I'm missing a nightstand, curtains, and some posters I ordered, but I'm excited to finally move out of my old room. I did all the work myself! Just like a big kid!

Hayy Spaced rasterbation! (sounds dirty but it's not. I promise.) I love Simon Pegg.

Further over, we have my lovely bed. I was originally planning on a raspberry duvet cover (because the theme was supposed to be black, white, and raspberry) but I couldn't find any sheets, comforters, fabric, or duvet covers in the color I wanted. It drove me nuts so I just ended up with a black one. This way, I can just change out my sheets when I want a color change.

So. More than a year after starting, the Ravenclaw Sesame is DONE! Hellz yes. I got really frustrated while seaming the sleeves into the armholes last summer and packed it away to be forgotten about at the bottom of the knitting bag. A couple weeks ago I finally decided I'd suck it up and finish the darn thing. Too bad I'm like 8 months late for all of last summer's Potter craziness. I would have enjoyed including this in my nerd outfit that I wore to the Deathly Hallows release.

There are a bunch of mistakes and little things I don't like about this sweater, but I finished it. I'll try not to gripe too much. Overall, I think it's pretty darn fabulous.

I've been meaning to Dino-fy a hoodie like this for months, but I've been a bit hesitant. I didn't want to mutilate a perfectly good hoodie beyond repair!
I ended up using my red one, which anyone who knows me in real life has probably seen at least a dozen times. It has definitely seen a good amount of wear in its time...

I used splotchy dyed fabric. The other side looks completely different. (Oh, the thrills I'll have wearing this!)

Yeeeah... Sorry for not posting anything since last summer, but I moved into a new house and the creative mojo has been lacking ever since.

Check out my latest feat of dorkiness!
The Mighty Boosh shoes, or Booshy shoes as I've been calling them.
The Mighty Boosh is a British comedy show. Look it up on Wikipedia if you're curious. It's absolutely amazing and one of my favorite shows.

Anyway... As I was looking at my collection of Converse last week, I noticed the purple pair with dots on them that I wasn't particularly fond of. (They're also a half size small and smoosh my toes if I wear them for too long.)

I decided that they could use a trip through my warped imagination.

They also glow in the dark, but you'll just have to take my word on that. Apparently taking pictures in the dark doesn't really work. Heh.

My best friend and I went to the Family Values Tour when it came to Orlando last weekend. We had an awesome time and got to see tons of awesome bands perform. By the time we got out to check out the merchandise table, a lot of the bands had come to collect their stuff. I was quite disappointed that I wasn't able to blow $30 on an overpriced Atreyu t-shirt. Atreyu is one of my favorite bands. They rock the hizzle. So what's a cheap, crafty girl to do? Bleach stencil her own shirt, of course!
So here is the result of a $3 black Hanes boys t-shirt, a bottle of bleachy water, a stencil from the stencilry, and a little patience:

With bleach being so touch and go, I think it's a pretty cool result. I'm not crazy about the weird pumpkiny color the bleach unearthed, but for $3, I'll take it.

Up and running again!

My hard drive went boom about a month ago. It was tragic.
I'm up and running on a brand new computer, thanks to my brother who built me a new one. Sometimes, albeit really rarely, he can pretty cool.

But just because my computer died doesn't mean I haven't been doing anything crafty! Oh, no no no... On the contrary, I've been working on quite a lot.

I'm in the midst of painting and redecorating my room! It is totally made of awesome! I'm doing something different on each wall. I have an oddly shaped room with lots of walls, so I have plenty of surfaces to inflict my painty madness on. As you might imagine, it's quite 'busy'looking! But I guess you could say it's a reflection on what goes on inside my head.

I woke up today itching to paint some jeans with my new fabric paint! No more mixing in that stupid fabric medium that obviously didn't work too well. These can't be washed for 72 hours, so we'll see how they turn out. Anyway, here are the back pockets that I painted-

Yes! Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy pants! Not to toot my own horn or anything, but they certainly contain gargantuan amounts of win and awesome. :D

I know I say this every time, but I'm not sure if they're done yet. As you might have noticed, they're conspicuously lacking in the number 42.

I'm trying my hand at sewing my own hoodie using gnacissej's hoodie tutorial because a.) I'm bored b.) one can never have too many hoodies and c.) the tutorial just pwns!
I'm acutally really surprised at how well it's going so far! I'd say less than 10 cursewords have been uttered! (It's no secret around here that the sewing machine aren't the best of friends.)
If it keeps up this well, I'll have a wearable article of clothing on my first try! How awesome is that!?

I'm still knitting the neverending buttonbands on my Ravenclaw cardi and the search for buttons is still on. Boo. The button hunt is more challenging than actually knitting hte sweater!
And because I'm a nutty Harry Potter addict, I'm drawing Luna Lovegood. (as played by Evanna Lynch) As you can see, it's still in the beginning stages. I've only got the eyes done.

*insert mumbled string of vulgarities and groans here*
I only washed them once for heaven's sake! I even washed them inside out!
I don't get it. It's only the white paint that chipped. I'm pretty sure I used the same amount of fabric medium in the mix as I did with all of the other colors.
It's all very disappointing. I spent all that time on those pants and now they look like crap. Nyah. I really liked them too.

It makes me very nervous about even entertaining the thought of washing my brand spankin' new Nightmare Before Christmas pants. (wrinkles ahoy!)

Because you know that wonderfully spectacular moon is mostly white paint.

Crap.
I guess I'll be looking into using rubberized fabric paint from now on.

I'd also like to report that I have successfully picked up 140 stitches on one of the button bands on Ravenclaw Sesame without chucking my knitting needles out the window and/or dying.

As I get closer and closer to finishing this sexy beast, I'm starting to look for some suitable buttons. Do you know how hard it is to find 38mm dark colored wood buttons? Srsly. It's absolutely ridiculous! I could probably do a Google search for a flaming pile of monkey poop and get more results.

Heck yeah!
I wandered out to my dad's woodshop on Sunday and decided to make these hairsticks. (or instruments of death, as my dad has dubbed them) I've seen lots of pretty ones on online stores, but my cheapass self couldn't stand the thought of forking over 30 bucks when I could probably figure out how to make them on my own for free using my dad's wood scraps.

It was pretty fun! I got to learn how to use the sanding machine and only sanded off skin on ONE of my knuckles! Go me.
The one on the left is some variety of mahogany and the one on the right is oak. I stained the oak one and coated them both in amber tinged captain's varnish. I've been sanding them with fine grit sandpaper and doing coats of varnish all week. Varnishing them without them falling over or getting fingerprints all over them is pretty much impossible. These sticks have been the source of many a frustrated grumble, but I'm still pretty happy with them. Those cheapie plastic ones that you buy at the Winn-Dixie just don't cut the mustard!

I've also put a little more work into the Homestar Runner pants. They now have...

ZOMG Painting!

I've been doing some painting over the past few weeks. It started with the whelping box. My mom asked me to paint a design on it and it's been a work in progress for almost 4 weeks now. I think it's almost done (see how big the puppies are getting? They're 3 weeks old now! How the time flies...)

Then I was really bored over the weekend and got the brilliant idea to mess around with a pair of old jeans I have.
They're not the most flattering pair and they also have a hole in the knee, but their paintjob was just what they needed to make me love them again!
I decided to paint characters from Homestarrunner.com completely on a whim. I LOVE that site! All of the cartoons are so funny and strangely addicting.

We have a litter of puppies at our house right now! 3 boys and a girl(pictured above.)Born Monday the 12th.
They have to be supervised constantly to make sure Cosette (mom) doesn't roll over and possibly smother one.I get the night shift.I guess it's a great time to work on those darn Sesame sleeves!(gotta get them done sometime.)

Why must sleeves be such a PAIN in the ASS?!

It seems like every sweater I attempt never gets done!
Why?
The sleeves.
They piss me off.They're long and usually require lots of increases,therefore starting out relatively harmless and end up a long,endless stockinette mostrosity.
And you have to do two.Talk about boring.

So for my Sesame cardi,I decided to do them both at once.I'm up for any mind tricks to make me think I'm only doing 'half' the work!
I suppose it's working out okay,except for the big tangly messy mass of yarn that I'm trying to work with.Those are always fun.

Who came up with the idea of sleeves anyway?I think they deserve a good kick in the shins.

I've been working on this crochet Amineko kitty since last October.He has been sitting on my desk and keeping me company (with 3 legs,no mouth,and no tail) for quite a while now.(He's a great tapestry needle holder,BTW) A few days ago,I decided to finish him up.
I whipped the remaining foot up in no time.I was all ready to attach it...and lo and behold-the navy beans I had been using to weight the other appendages down with were either
a.)Used for something else,
or,
b.)Have been thrown away.

Don't you just HATE when stuff like that happens?You are INCHES away from finishing something and BAM!The plans are foiled until you can get to the grocery store.

It's chainmaille!How cool is that?I came across some chainmaille making tutorials and had to try it out (and got some really weird looks from my mom when I told her what I was doing).Just to see if I actually could.It took me 2 days to actually get the hang of it!It's harder than it looks.It's also murder on your fingertips.The end result is really cool though.

I've also been working on my Ravenclaw Sesame.The back is almost done.I just finished the armhole decreases.

Strange Cravings...

Yeah,lately I've been having strange cravings for some of that Trekking XXL Sock yarn.
You may not think this is odd,but I friggn HATE knitting socks on anything smaller than size 10 needles to be felted.I don't really even wear socks all that much!
It was that darn iPod cozy that got me hooked on teeny tiny needles.And who can resist the call of a pretty color changing yarn?
Sooo...Any suggestions on which colorway to order up? :D

Erm,in other news,I swatched and cast on for MagKnits's (MagKnits'?MagKnit's? Whatever.) Sesame in Ravenclaw colors.
You know it had to be done! Especially since I went to that Harry and the Potters concert last week (which totally rocked the hizzy,BTW.) and saw the masses of people with House Scarves wrapped around their necks.It totally made me want my Ravenclaw Cardi.Now.
I feel so naughty.As all of my other projects sit unfinished,I cast on for more and more.I feel like a cheater.My Rogue,for instance,has the majority of a sleeve done.So close to finishing and yet I start a new project!

Patience prevails

We have a grafted Rogue hood!But be careful not to look too close lest you find that the stitches are twisted and uneven.Shhh!
It looks good from far away though.As long as noone comes within a couple inches of the back of my neck (or top of my head) it should be okay.

I grafted this last..Wednesday,I think.I've been gone on a boat trip ever since then.The marina we stayed at didn't have any internet connection.

The trip was great though!We had a whole newfie weekend.We were in St. Augustine's annual Christmas parade with the Newfoundland Club of Florida and went to a fund raising dinner/fine arts auction for for the newf rescue afterwards.
On the trip there I worked on my first Rogue sleeve:

We were quite busy for most of the weekend with club meetings and stuff,so I didn't get to work on it much but I'm really starting to feel like I'm getting somewhat close to finishing this sweater.It's so gratifying.I'll probably knit another.

Want to know what else is gratifying?

See all those gray t-shirts?There were about 80 people wearing them on Saturday.What's so special about them?I drew the picture that's on the front.It was pretty awesome to see something that I worked so hard on being enjoyed by lots of people!

Christmas goodies

I went to the craft store yesterday to pick out some things for Christmas gifts.I decided to make bracelets.They're quick,easy (except for determining which beads to use!),and fairly professional looking.

I had sort of a hard time determining what size I should make them.They're for an 8 year old and a 10 year old (somewhere around there).I ended up making them so they just barely fit my wrist.They might be a bit big,but they'll grow,right?

And here's that tea dyed yarn in its last few minutes as a nice butterscotch colored yarn (not bad,eh?)

It turns out that the grocery store didn't have any blue kool-aid.Sux0r.I really wanted blue.
I think I like the purple..In hindsight,the 2 packets I used is probably a bit too much.I would have liked the color to be a little more muted.It's a cool look though.

What happens when I get really bored and have a hankering for some new yarn?
Dyeing!Woo hoo!
I'm trying my hand at dyeing some yarn with tea as we speak.The house currently smells like rotten peaches and a wet sheep,but that's okay!

So,I pretty much know diddly about tea dyeing..I've done lots of kool-aid dyeing,but we didn't have any kool-aid packets in the house!I googled 'dyeing wool with tea'.It didn't help much.I searched the same on Craftster and got the gist of it (basically,I gathered that all you do is plop your yarn in a boiling pot of really steep tea.)I thought to myself 'We have lots of tea!'
So I added some tea to the really old (and seemingly neverending) skein of fisherman's wool I've had in my stash for at least 3 years,and now I've got myself a stinky pot of yarn.

MMM...

I took that picture in the beginning of the process..Triple the amount of tea packets you see and that's pretty much how much tea is in there now.It is a looot of tea!
The yarn really isn't as dark as I had hoped.I might end up overdyeing it with some kool aid (maybe blue?)
We'll see how it turns out!

I just seamed the shoulders together and have been wearing it since.I still need to patch up some holes where the increases in the throat cables are though.
It is so comfy!The yarn isn't scratchy or anything.
In other news,I learned how to pick up w&t's while doing the shoulder shaping.

I just divided the front from the back like,an hour ago!OMG look at all the exclamation points I'm using!Agh!

This yarn is really strange! See how the color varies just in the bathroom light vs. my room light?I took this in the car with me to work on a while ago.Holy crow!It is sooo green!I really like the muted green color it is in artifical light.Hopefully the vivid color of the yarn in daylight will grow on me.
Off to go knit some more!W00t!I'll try to get better pictures next time.You wouldn't imagine how hard it is to take a picture of yourself while holding what is basically a big tube over your body!

I got up to attatching the kangaroo pocket top to the body this evening.
I put the whole thing on a lifeline and tried it on..I luuurve it!
Even with all of the lefty knitter fussing,this sweater has been totally worth it.Fits like a dream so far.

Yeah,boring boring post.I just wanted to update with a few pictures of my progress on the various knitting projects.

The Rogue:

Not much to say here.

One of those pesky sleeves I'm re-knitting that I talked about in...HAHA..September!

I whipped this out to work on last night.I pretty much forgotten about it until then!The body portion was laying all pinned out on the drapery table since,well,September!I'm getting far too used to working on enormous size 10 needles.It feels like progress on this is going so sloowwww!And I'm only using size 6's!

Last,a scarily enormous slipper I'm making for my dad:

I just hope the Paton's Merino felts as well as the Lionbrand Fisherman's wool I'm used to using.It's so much softer! I think I'll make my next project in it!

Here's my progress on Rogue since my last post.Not much,I know...But I have a life (which actually has consisted mainly of sleeping for the past few days,but still..)

Anyway,I've been starting to brainstorm about making this year's Christmas gifts..I don't think I'll craft much besides some golf club head covers for my grandma.I'm trying to think of how I'll incorporate elephants into that.She really loves elephants.
Other gifts might include a sewn wallet for a friend of mine.I might knit or crochet her a purse or something instead though.I've had my eye on some cool ones for a while but have never made them because I don't use purses much.
I was thinking to of knitting some armwarmers or hats or something for her 2 younger sisters.I think they're 8 and 10 so I'm not really sure what they'd like.

Y'know...With the amount of knitting I have done on my Rogue since my last blog update,I think I could probably be finished with the entire thing!

If I had done it right...

And I mean right literally.I'm a lefty knitter.The body (up to the armpits) of this sweater is knit in the round,so in one direction,obviously.The pattern is made for righty knitters,and knitting it in the proper direction is essential (*cough*apparently*cough*)for the cables to 'pop'.
Yeah.A smarter person probably would have taken this into consideration sooner,but not me..I figured it didn't matter much!

So there I was..happily knitting along,figuring the cables would be more noticable after blocking..I convinced myself of this up until about row 35,maybe..I started to doubt it..A lot..
Enter the frogging.

So I cast on again and now I'm purling the whole dang thing ( I HAATE purlinggg)And the cables,I am happy to report,are BEYOOTIFUL!
After all the frogging ( I think the count is up to 5 so far..3 being total restarts) I'm really not far into the sweater,but that's okay.I feel proud of myself for not setting myself aflame and diving off a very tall building and actually sticking with it.Even if I suck at righty knitting and have to purl it the entire way :)

I want my Rogue,dammit!And I will have it!

Ahem..Here's a picture now..Please 'Ooh' and 'aah" just a little bit.It will make me feel good!

So I finally finished the body hem of Rogue.I'm about to start the cables! I'm exciteddd!The Wool Of The Andes is actually softer than I expected..It feels softer knitted up than just feeling it when its wound up in the skein it comes in.
I can already tell I'm going to love this..That is,if I don't royally screw it up which is what happens most of the time.

YES!Woo hoo!*does wiggle dance* My yarn came today!Isn't it so pretty?It is a bit darker than I thought it would be,but I love it!
I'm so anxious to start my Rogue!!Need to get to the craft store for some size 10 circs before I can start..I suppose I could start working on a sleeve now though..

As you may have guessed,my sweater and I are indeed on our way to making amends..Hah.As if I could really convince myself it would be a good idea to rip up all that work!
I added a few rows to the body armhole piece to make them bigger yesterday and am re-knitting the super tight sleeves.Well,Sort of.I don't have much of a sense of humor for that thing right now so I cast on,knit 2 rows of ribbing,and packed it up in my knitting bag.Meh.
I did a swatch earlier today for a Ravenclaw!Hoodie I had in mind,but I'd need like,size 11 needles to get gauge for the pattern I'm going to use .I think that's too holey for my taste so I'll probably end up using my trusty size 6 circs and adjusting the pattern a bit.Hopefully I have enough yarn! I got 2 balls of gray and 4 of navy in Lionbrand Wool-Ease.I'm going to make the pattern above a full length sweater,so I need more yardage than specified.I think I'm going to do POA style stripes.
Anyway,I'll post pictures of my WIP sweater when I don't have a really bad headache.So probably tomorrow.

I have neglected you so.
It is a good thing that noone actually reads this!
I posted 2 times and then moved on to bigger and better blogs which noone actually reads either.
But now I'm back and with a rant about my WIP sweater.
Here's the lowdown.I'm using a pattern a lovely fellow craftster translated from german.Well,apparently I have bigger arms and shoulders than those germans.

Where do I begin?I started this thing in mid July-sometime around then- and have been knitting my brains out trying to finish it since.
Well my dears..You can imagine my glee when I finished all of the knitting of this sweater yesterday!Including the hell known as picking up 212 stitches around the neckline and doing 8cm. of ribbing!
But alas,the sweater and I have had a falling out.
You see,happy little me started seaming one of the sleeves into its armhole yesterday.All was well (if a little lumpy looking) so I continued to seam the sleeve shut..I tried it on and to my dismay,the armhole was unpleasantly,uncomfortably,and undeniably tight!So was the sleeve,but I can deal with that.Mostly because there is no way in hell that I am going to completely redo 2 sleeves.

Well,I actually probably will..but I'm too busy being ticked off right now to admit it.You see,there are 5 stages of grief.I'll give you a little list here.

1-Denial-"this can't be happening to me!What did I do to make the knitting gods frown down upon me?"
2-Anger-"why me?What a freaking waste of yarn and time!"
3-Bargaining-(this is the point I'm at now...)"Well, maybe if I go back and add a few rows.."
4-Depression-(which I hope I skip over)
5-Acceptance-This is the part where I'll either fix the sweater or it will get unravelled and go back into the froggy pond with all of the other failed projects.

And so,the adventures of what was to be the first COMPLETED sweater continue...

On to some happier news.Since I thought that my sweater was almost finished,I ordered up the yarn and pattern for my next project,The Rogue . Is that not the most beautiful thing you have ever seen?
It is. Yes..Ever since I first saw it a few months ago,I have deamt of knitting it.Literally,which is kind of scary. But I'm so close to starting this now.I'm so excited.I ordered KnitPicks Wool of the Andes in Fern yesterday.It was so hard to choose a color and I hope I made the right choice!
But anyway,I was reading a thread on Craftster about the time it usually takes for Knit Picks to send out their orders.Some people said that they were waiting for 3 weeks before their yarn came!It made me pretty worried.I'm not sure if I can wait that loooong!!(I am known to have toddler-like patience when waiting for something to arrive in the mail)
I hope all goes well.

My family and I got back from our boat trip on Monday..The trip took about 6 hours,which left me a lot of time to craft..Along with that,we did a lot of sitting around and relaxing when we weren't walking around the town there.

I got a few simple bead and embroidery floss jewelry projects projects done.Take a looksee

Beaded ruffle bracelet-

This thing snapped on me a few times because I used crappy wire.Not only that,but the gold beads I used were CRAP.The coloring washed out with water..so every time I washed my hands or took a shower more and more gold came out. I decided to remake it with better wire and beads.
